Concept

TOP-EYE diagram

A new Digital Microscope from Micro-optik - TOP-EYE was developed to satisfy scientists and engineers need to provide a sophisticated microscopic tool with many powerful features on board. A Tool, which can be used for broad range of applications allowing to get a visual presentation of the micro surfaces, particles, composite materials, etc. and make virtual high quality 2D and 3D models. TOP-EYE is based on an unique open technology concept where all the building blocks are the best available on the market with a proven track record in performance. For all the applications, microscopic and machine vision components are added to the system console with a simple plug and play.

3D Synthesis & Control

TOP-EYE uses a motorized axis to acquire images with height information. Collection and processing of the images lead to a 3D surface model. Proprietary image analysis algorithms assure a smooth and flawless merging of all images into a true color 3D display. So called D.F.D. method enables image composition using less sampling data than conventional models. D.F.D. method The D.F.D. method calculates the positions of projections and depressions in the area in which focus cannot be obtained based on multiple images and obtains the data of height differences. As a result, image composition is enabled with less sampling data. There is no need to capture images at all focus positions, enhancing the efficiency of analysis operations. For better visualization we realized different methods of the Volume Rendering - cloud of points, graticule, vertical triangulation. User friendly interfacing allows easy manipulation with the 3D models.

3D Synthesis & Control

The 3D measurement functions allow the user to obtain an accurate and detailed profile of any target. For user convenience these profiles can be visualized in many different ways.

2D & 3D measurements

The 3D topography evaluation features of the TOP-EYE system additionally allow to measure any kind of 2D geometrical feature, using Point, Line, Polygon, Circle and other tools. It allows performing measurements: between two points; consecutive line; perpendicular line; circle; between parallel lines; angle; polygon perimeter and area; XY coordinates of the objects; 3D profiles; colour profiles; etc. The profile features are convenient for quality control inspection. Profile can be obtained from any kind of measurement. All measurements and calculations can be exported as pictures or as standard MsOffice files for further processing. For reversed engineering applications we provide tools to convert coordinates into Solid Works drawings.

Furthermore, TOP-EYE allows to calculate morfometric features of the object’s defects/particles, including - Elongation, Roundness, Compactness, Roughness, Convexity, and much more ...

2D & 3D measurements

Elongation - locates the centre of gravity, builds the longest axis in the particle and the axis orthogonal through the centre. The value of elongation is 100% minus the relation between the longest and the orthogonal axis. The elongation of a circle is 0, all other forms are >0 and <100%.
Roundness - locates the centre of gravity and builds the biggest inner and the smallest outer circle around it. The value of roundness is the relation between the inner and the outer circle. The roundness of a circle is 100%, all other forms <100%.
Compactness - is calculated as the relation between the objects area and its perimeter ([4*Π*S]/Π2). A perfect circle has a compactness of 100%.
Roughness - is the relation of the areas which can be built by circuits of 80% of sieve diameter and the built area. It is a characteristic number for all domes sticked out of a particle.
Convexity - builds a rubber band around the particle and determines the inner area. The value of convexity is the relation between the area of the particle and the built rubber band area. It is a characteristic number for all indentations of a particle.

Particles/defects calculation

TOP-EYE allows to make fast detailed calculation of the geometrical features of the particles/defects or any kind of blobs on the inspected area. A compilation of different filtration methods and powerful engine for image preparation, allows to extract relevant information quickly and to clean up unnecessary data.

Components

TOP-EYE performs precise and reliable digital control of all system’s components and allows to get superior flexibility and quality of the experimental process.

The Video/Image capturing is based on cameras with UXGA resolution and a 1/1.8" Bayer mosaic colour progressive scan sensor. The sensor has an array of 1624 (h) x 1232 (v) 4.4 µm square pixels.

The camera has build in RGB filters which allow the acquisition of high quality images. Image Pre-processing allows to adjust the microscope for different demanding applications by controlling a numerous list of parameters. Amongst them Gain (0 ... 20 dB), Offset (0 ... 255 LSB | 12 bit); Color Models - RGB, YUV, Mono; Color Processing - Integrated colour processor for high quality color calculation; Color Adjustment - One Push White Balance, User-specific color adjustment.

Acquisition Formats - Full Frame - 1624 x 1232 pixels x max. 16.0 fps; Pixel Formats - Mono8, BayerRG8, BayerRG12, RGB8 Packed, BGR8 Packed, YUV411 Packed, YUV422 Packed, YUV444 Packed.

In standard TOP-EYE configuration special designed 20X lenses are used. These lenses allow high quality images/video to be obtained and 3D information acquisition. The combination of zoom range, coupled with larger field coverage allow a wider range of sample to be visualized. With optional lens adapters a dynamic magnification of 0.007-7000X (0.8 micron resolution) can be reached, enabling more applications to be realized.
